My Inspiration

I’m inspired by what makes me happy. That may seem like a nebulous comment but to understand you first have to understand what I mean by ‘happy’. I don’t mean the obvious or tangible such as a nice house, money, cake. Within this context I mean that rather fleeting feeling you get that comes at the most unexpected moments. That delightful feeling when something makes your heart momentarily grow one size bigger, your eyes twinkle and you might even let yourself smile for real.

The place that is a constant source of happiness and therefore inspiration for me is in the arms of nature. Whether it is the gentle susurration of wind through the grass and the buzz of bumble bees as I absorb the beautiful tapestry of wildflowers into my consciousness or the meditative sound of waves on the shore and the stained glass quality of the cresting water as the sun shines through, I always am inspired.

I love to distil the beauty of these experiences into my work in the hope of crystallising the moment of happiness. It is a task as rewarding as it is futile. Attempting to capture nature in its perfection, fragility and grace is akin to catching moonbeams in a jar.

It doesn’t mean that I won’t keep trying.

It does mean that I will never succeed.

I am not on the quest for success, but for inspiration and happiness. The process is all I need.
